Water Maintenance Worker

Columbia Power & Water Systems seeks an individual for a full-time, non-exempt position to perform installations and maintenance on the water distribution system and operate heavy equipment in the Water Equipment Operator’s absence.

Duties and responsibilities include the following: install, repair, and maintain water mains, service water lines, and fire hydrants; repair meter box leaks; change out water meters; operate construction equipment including pipe tapping machine, paving breaker, air tamp, rock drill, push machine, pipe saw, air compressor, and valve truck; drive company vehicles including dump trucks; operate construction equipment including backhoe, skid steer, and excavator in the Water Equipment Operator’s absence; subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out; and other duties as assigned.

Required skills and abilities include the following: regular attendance at work; acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS policies; perform duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public; ability to talk, see, and hear; ability to read job-related material; ability to skillfully use hand tools or machines needed for the job; ability to skillfully operate heavy equipment including backhoe, skid steer, and excavator; ability to work both inside and outside; and the ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy.

Physical requirements include the following: ability to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 2 hours a day; ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 25 pounds for 6 hours a day; ability to walk; ability to stand for 8 hours a day; ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time; and the ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.

Education, experience, and qualifications include the following: high school diploma or equivalent required; valid State of Tennessee Class A Commercial Driver’s License required; basic knowledge of water systems installation and maintenance required; minimum of 3 years construction experience required; and a minimum of 3 years’ operating heavy equipment including backhoe, skid steer, and excavator required.

Residency requirements include residing within a CPWS service territory or Maury County due to the position being subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out.
