Water Distribution Superintendent

CPWS is hiring a Water Distribution Superintendent to join our growing organization. This is an exempt position to manage and supervise the Water Distribution crews while performing distribution system maintenance and infrastructure operations.

Duties/Responsibilities: This position will oversee and issue work to the water distribution crews; ensure safety of CPWS create and the public; oversee the installation and maintenance of all water infrastructure; locate mains and service lines; and work with the Water Engineering Office Manager to ensure system effectiveness and efficiency.

The Water Distribution Superintendent should be able to read and interpret construction plans and system maps; aid in ensuring the integrity of GIS water data; be able to explain CPWS policies, provide system information, and technical assistance to consultants, developers, contractors, customers, and other departments or agencies. They should aid in the development and maintenance of construction and equipment standards; inspect developer installed facilities to ensure they meet CPWS standards; establish and enforce departmental procedures, standards, and regulations; train and develop Water Distribution staff; perform performance appraisals and discipline when required by CPWS policy; and assist with preparation of the annual budget and operate the department within that budget. This role may also be subject to other work, as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: The Water Distribution Superintendent must acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS policies and are expected to maintain regular attendance at work. They must perform duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public. They must have the ability to skillfully use Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel; to read and understand instructions and job-related material (blueprints, drawings, orders, safety data sheets, distribution maps, manuals, etc.); the ability to read, write, and follow instructions; the ability to work with the public in a professional and cordial manner; the ability to occasionally use hand tools or machines needed on the job (including but not limited to, hand tools, lathe, grinders, drill press, soldering iron, meter test bench, gauges, etc.); the ability to work inside and outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery; and the ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy.

Physical Requirements: This position requires candidates to be able to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 1 hour a day; the ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 10 pounds for 6 hours a day; the ability to walk; the ability to stand for 8 hours a day; the ability to sit at a desk or table for 8 hours a day; the ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time; and the ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.

Education, Experience, and Qualifications: CPWS requires the Water Distribution Superintendent to have a High School Diploma or equivalent; a valid Tennessee Driver’s License; the Tennessee Dept. of Environment & Conservation Grade II Distribution System Operator Certificate; and the Tennessee Dept. of Environment & Conservation Certificate of Backflow Prevention Assemblies. CPWS also

requires a minimum of 15 years of experience in water distribution and maintenance. At least 1 year of experience in directing water distribution staff in all aspects of field operations is preferred.

Residency Requirements: Must reside within CPWS service territory or Maury County due to the position being subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out.
