Staff Accountant

Columbia Power & Water Systems seeks an individual for a full-time, non-exempt, diverse position that provides basic and ancillary accounting functions in support of the accounting department. This position is designed to provide broad exposure to the accounting functions through cash management, account reconciliation and balancing, along with basic data analytic functions. Applicants must have desire to progress within the accounting department.

Duties and responsibilities include the following: responsible for daily cash receipts balancing; assist in the accounts payable process in coding of invoice check requests; responsible for the administration of the Heat Pump Loan Program to include both internal and external reporting; perform grant and contract administration tasks associated with capital project funding; calculate and process various reimbursement and cash transfer requests; ensure that cash receipts documentation is properly scanned and filed within the document management system; participate in review of journal files as part of the month end close process; maintain filing for accounting correspondence; do all Fed Ex mailings for accounting as necessary; responsible for administration of organization credit card platform; initiate requests for new cards, card closures, and adjustments for credit limits; gather and compile organization data as requested for presentation and analysis; and perform other duties as assigned.

Physical requirements include the following: ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds; ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds for 2 hours a day; ability to use eyes, hands, and fingers to operate computer keyboard quickly and accurately; ability to sit for 3 hours at a time; ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.

Education, experience, and qualifications include the following: Associates Degree in accounting or other business field with 2 years’ related experience or bachelor’s degree. Bachelor’s degree preferred. A degree in accounting or minor in accounting, preferred. Experience in lieu of education will be considered; 1-2 years of accounting experience with FERC or RUS accounting preferred; prior general utility industry experience will be considered with demonstrated understanding of utility account structure; must be

highly proficient in Excel with ability to create charts, tables, and trend analysis; proficient with Word and Outlook; basic knowledge of Power Point/Prezi with desire to expand knowledge; and the ability to learn and use Organization Software, Local Government, or similar.
