Power Engineering Manager

CPWS is looking for an individual to join our growing organization as a Power Engineering Manager. This is an exempt position expected to design, plan, and specify Power System facilities for transmission lines, substations, distribution lines, and services. This position will directly supervise the engineering staff and the Technical Services foreman and indirectly supervise the Technical Services crew.

Duties/Responsibilities: The Power Engineering Manager will analyze distribution system for proper loading and coordination; study system for load growth; work new commercial service applications; and prepare detailed construction drawings. They will install, operate, and maintain the system distribution computer model program; enter databases for computer analysis; and install, operate, and maintain the SCADA system. This role will manage Engineering and Technical Services personnel in carrying out duties; design and layout of distribution lines; assist Technical Services with voltage and electrical equipment complaints for customers; as well as test and set up substation relays and protective equipment. The Engineering Manager will prepare cost estimates; provide planning and engineering functions required to develop wide-area networks; and interact with customers, consultants, and contractors. They may be expected to perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: The Power Engineering Manager must acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS policies and maintain regular attendance at work. Perform duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public. A valid Tennessee Driver’s License is required. They will be expected to abide by residency requirement as determined by the Board (CPWS personnel subject to stand-by or after-hours call-out must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County) as they can be subject to emergency call-out. Must be computer literate and able to use a personal computer with the ability to sit at a desk or table for up to 8 hours per day; ability to reach, handle, feel, talk, hear, and see; ability to read and write; ability to easily walk across undeveloped hilly, overgrown, and rocky areas; ability to cut, hammer, and stake; and the ability to drive a vehicle. Environmental Conditions: Ability to work inside and outside: 50% inside but job requires outside exposure in severe weather conditions such as storms, rain, extreme cold, and extreme heat.

To do this kind of work, the Power Engineering Manager must be able to use mathematics with ease, use computer analysis programs, solve problems involving systems; work on various projects; and deal with people in a courteous manner.

Math Skills: Requires mathematic skills sufficient to work with exponents, linear equations, quadratic equations, analytical geometry, and some differentiation and integration easily and effectively.

Language Skills: Must have developed language skills to the point of being able to read and comprehend technical documents.
