Columbia Power & Water Systems seeks an individual for a full-time, non-exempt, safety sensitive position to supervise and coordinate activities of work engaged in construction and repair of overhead and underground power lines.
Supervisor duties and responsibilities include the following: oversee the daily operations of the assigned crew members and inspect materials and work being performed; train assigned crew members to do jobs safely and efficiently; enforce safety rules and regulations; maintain timesheets; interpret company policies to crew members; perform job briefings; read blueprints and job orders and assign job duties to crew members; and set up machinery and equipment.
Duties and responsibilities include the following: construct, install, and maintain overhead and underground primary facilities per CPWS specifications and standards; construct, install, and maintain overhead and underground secondary facilities and services per CPWS specifications and standards; climb poles to perform maintenance; cover up high voltage; perform cut-ins and cut-outs; patrol all power lines; trim trees and cut rights-of-ways; work on substations and power transmission lines; operate aerial device or digger derrick unit in a safe manner and in compliance with the manufacturer’s operation limits; drive company vehicles; assemble materials and assist other employees; subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out; and other duties as assigned.
Required skills and abilities include the following: regular attendance at work; acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS policies; perform duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public; ability to read and understand instructions and job-related material (blueprints, drawings, orders, safety data sheets, distribution maps, manuals, etc.); ability to use mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; ability to work with the general public; ability to write; ability to follow instructions; ability to accept the responsibility for job completion; ability to supervise and monitor crew members’ work being performed; ability to skillfully use tools or machines needed on the job; possess extensive knowledge of linework and operation of power equipment; ability to work inside and outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery; and the ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy.
Physical requirements include the following: ability to climb poles up to 100 feet; ability to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 2 hours a day; ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 25 pounds for 6 hours a day; ability to walk; ability to stand for 8 hours a day; ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time; and the ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.
Education, experience, and qualifications include the following: high school diploma or equivalent required; a valid State of Tennessee Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
required; five years minimum experience as a Lineworker required; and must obtain State of Tennessee Blaster License within one year from date of hire and maintain license.
Residency requirement includes residing within a CPWS service territory or Maury County due to the position being subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out.
