Information Technology Systems Help Desk Technician

Columbia Power & Water Systems (CPWS) seeks an individual for a full-time, exempt position to provide support for CPWS’ software and hardware on the corporate network to all workforce members. This position is responsible for the timely response and satisfactory resolution of support requests received by phone, email, or in person in addition to supporting existing information technology systems, implementing new systems, and assisting with the modifications of systems to meet the needs of CPWS.

Duties/responsibilities include the following tasks: Maintain positive relationships with all workforce members (internal and external); provide technical support for workstations, software, and peripheral devices; configure and deploy new workstations, software, and peripheral devices; maintain Microsoft Deployment Toolkit environment for imaging workstations; maintain computer and user accounts in Active Directory and other CPWS’ software; deploy and support Microsoft Office products; train workforce members on the use of workstations, software, and peripheral devices as needed; collaborate with workforce members to assess needs and recommend possible solutions; monitor the health of information technology infrastructure/systems and resolve/escalate issues as appropriate; monitor routine backup processes for successful completion and resolve/escalate issues as appropriate; assist in modifying existing software, as needed, to meet CPWS’ specific needs; assist in installing application software and operating system updates and patches as needed; assist in deploying and supporting the network infrastructure, VoIP phone system, and the virtual infrastructure as needed; assist in monitoring and troubleshooting cybersecurity threats; participate in disaster recovery planning and process improvement activities; stay abreast of changes/trends in the computer industry through continuing education; and other work as assigned.

Required skills/abilities of the job include the following: regular attendance at work; acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS’ policies; perform duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public; ability to operate computer keyboard quickly and accurately; ability to perform repetitive tasks; ability to read computer programs and accompanying written material; ability to use mathematical skills to work with financial, accounting, and engineering personnel to develop application for specific needs of these departments; ability to write; ability to follow instructions; ability to think logically and “in computer terms”; ability to understand Microsoft windows operating system (workstation and server); ability to understand networking and VMware environment; ability to deal effectively with computer hardware; ability to analyze and solve problems efficiently and effectively using facts and personal judgment; ability to develop a good understanding of CPWS’ Accounting, Customer Service, and Engineering needs for all systems; ability to develop a good overall operating knowledge of CPWS’ systems; ability to work on different projects and adjust to changing priorities; ability to deal effectively with various types of people; ability to effectively document support activities, system configurations, and processes; and the ability to work inside.

Physical requirements include the following: ability to lift 0 – 20 pounds occasionally; ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing up to 10 pounds frequently; ability to sit for 2 hours at a time; and the ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.

To do this job, you must have a high school diploma or equivalent; 3 years’ minimum experience providing helpdesk support consistent with the duties/responsibilities listed above is preferred; and a 2 or 4 year Business or Technical degree is preferred.
