CPWS is looking for an individual to train to be a line worker with our growing organization. This non-exempt, safety-sensitive position will be taught to maintain and construct overhead and underground power distribution facilities.
Duties/Responsibilities: Apprentice line worker’s will assist with the construction, installation, and maintenance of overhead and underground primary facilities per CPWS specifications and standards; assist with the construction, installation, and maintenance of overhead and underground secondary facilities and services per CPWS specifications and standard; climb poles to perform maintenance; assist with covering up high voltage; assist with performing cut-ins and cut-outs; assist with patrolling all power lines; assist with trimming trees and cutting rights-of-ways; assist in digging dirt or rock holes for poles and/or anchors; assist with working on substations and power transmission lines; assist in operating aerial devices or digger derrick units in a safe manner and in compliance with the manufacturer’s operation limits ; drive company vehicles; assist in maintaining street and security lights; assemble materials and assist other employees. This role is subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call- out. This is not an exhaustive list of job responsibilities; apprentice line workers may be expected to perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities: Apprentice line workers must acknowledge and adhere to all CPWS policies and maintain regular attendance at work. They are expected to perform duties safely without endangering self, others, and the public. Apprentice line workers must have the ability to read and understand instructions and job-related material (blueprints, drawings, orders, safety data sheets, distribution maps, manuals, etc.); ability to use mathematical skills to be able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure; ability to work with the general public; ability to write; ability to follow instructions; ability to skillfully use tools or machines needed on the job; ability to learn and/or possess basic knowledge of linework and operation of power equipment; ability to work inside and outside and be exposed to noisy places, fumes, chemicals, toxic substances, and machinery; ability to be exposed to weather conditions that are cold, hot, rainy, and windy.
Physical Requirements: Apprentice line workers must have the ability to climb poles up to 100 feet; ability to lift 0 – 100 pounds for 2 hours a day; ability to lift and/or carry objects weighing 0 – 25 pounds for 6 hours a day; ability to walk; ability to stand for 8 hours a day; ability to stoop, kneel, and crouch for long periods of time; and the ability to talk, see, hear, reach, handle, and feel.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications: CPWS requires those hired into this role to have a High School Diploma or equivalent, and a valid State of Tennessee Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License. Apprentice line workers are also expected to obtain the State of Tennessee Blaster License within one year from date of hire and maintain license, and to complete CPWS’ and TVPPA’s Apprentice Lineman training programs.
Residency Requirements: Must reside within a CPWS service territory or Maury County due to the position being subject to stand-by, after-hours, and/or emergency call-out.
